Paws
Urbana, Ohio
Paws is a compassionate animal shelter dedicated to rescuing and providing a safe haven for cats in need. Our mission is to promote animal welfare, prevent cruelty, and find loving forever homes for every feline that comes through our doors. With a team of dedicated staff and volunteers, we strive to create a nurturing environment where every cat can thrive and receive the care and attention they deserve
Our Story
The Champaign County Humane Association, Inc. (CCHA) was founded in 1977, initially relying solely on fosters to care for stray animals. In 1991, they opened Paws Animal Shelter in Champaign County, a rural county with a total population of about 39,000. In 2018, the CCHA decided to transition Paws Animal Shelter to a cat-only facility, as there is a desperate need in our area for additional shelter spaces for cats and kittens. Thanks to a generous donation, we expanded our shelter in 2021, which has enabled us to rescue even more cats and kittens.
Our Work and Impact
Rescue
Through our rescue efforts, we save abandoned, abused, and stray cats, giving them a second chance at life. We provide medical care, rehabilitation, and love to each cat, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being is restored.
Rehabilitation
Our rehabilitation programs focus on the individual needs of each cat, including socialization, behavior training, and medical treatments. We work tirelessly to prepare them for adoption into loving homes, providing specialized care to address any challenges they may face.
Adoption
Finding forever homes for our cats is the heart of our mission. We carefully match each cat with a loving family, ensuring a seamless transition and ongoing support post-adoption. Our goal is to create lasting bonds between pets and their new families, promoting a harmonious and fulfilling relationship.

The Ohio Pet License Plates are Ohio vehicle registration tags with special pet images, like the four on The Ohio Pet Fund’s website. Purchasing a special image from the BMV raises funds for spaying and neutering dogs and cats at qualifying agencies like humane societies, non-profit dog and cat rescues, and government animal control facilities, helping more homeless animals find forever homes!
